Attention filmmakers! Polish off your short sexy films and submit them to one (or all) of these great festivals and contests.

The Petra Joy Award 2012
 This is an erotic short film competition for aspiring female filmmakers – women who are either completely new to filmmaking or amateur directors who have not been distributed yet. The theme of the second Petra Joy Award is “Female Fantasies”. Petra Joy is a pioneer of female-focused porn and has always promoted female sexual liberation and self-expression in her erotic films, books and workshops for women. The duration of the film can be anything between one to ten minutes. The genre is open – from animation to documentary or erotic vignettes – we welcome all films that feature female fantasies and in an innovative, creative and artistic way. A fresh, creative approach is much more important to us than technical perfection. Deadline is August 31, 2012. Details here.

HUMP! 2012
The Stranger and Portland Mercury are looking for short porn films – five minutes max – to be screened at HUMP! 2012 over three weekends in November in Seattle, Portland, and Olympia. Films can be hardcore, softcore, live action, animation, kinky, vanilla, straight, gay, lez, bi, trans, genderqueer – anything goes! (Well, except no poop, no animals, no minors.) Deadline for submissions is October 5, 2012. Click here for info on cash prizes and where to send your film.

Good Vibes International Indie Erotic Film Competition
Submit your short erotic-themed film to THE QUICKIES – Good Vibrations international Indie Erotic Film Competition and you may end up a star!  Whether you’re a professional artiste, art student, budding filmmaker, or just having fun with your Flipcam, we want to see your stuff!  What’s erotic?  You tell us! Funny, serious, gay, straight, if you think it’s hot, we want to see it in 7 minutes or less.  Our 2012 Grand Prize Winner will receive $1,500 at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco on October 26th!  Submissions must be received by June 30, 2012. Details on how to submit.

The 2012 Southwest Gay & Lesbian Film Festival
This annual film festival, is celebrating its 10th year, and has expanded to a ten day event presented in the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Films and videos submitted can be of any length and should be of interest to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender communities.  This year the festival is excited to add a new shorts program of erotic films.  While many LGBT films feature love stories and a bit of titillation, this shorts program is an opportunity for erotic films to have their own dedicated showcase.  We are looking for short films that particularly highlight authentic eroticism and desire from a variety of perspectives.  Deadline is Friday, July 14, 2012. Submission guidelines here.

This week on Sex Out Loud we will be LIVE for the very first time, talking with author and activist Jaclyn Friedman. We want you to join in the conversation, so we’ll be hearing from listeners while on the air.  Call in & talk to us at 866-472-5788.

Writer, editor, performer, and activist Jacyln Friedman has been instrumental in presenting new ways of thinking about preventing rape without shaming or blaming women. In our first live show, we’ll discuss with her the success of her book, Yes Means Yes, as well as her latest release, What You Really Really Want. Jaclyn will talk about discovering what safe and shame-free sex means to us both as individuals and as a society, including stories of her own journey through feminist sex education to become “this generation’s version of Dr. Ruth.”

Jaclyn Friedman is a feminist evangelist, and the editor of the hit book Yes Means Yes: Visions of Female Sexual Power and a World Without Rape (one of Publishers’ Weekly’s Top 100 Books of 2009, and #11 on Ms. Magazine’s Top 100 Feminist Nonfiction of All Time list). Her new book, What You Really Really Want: The Smart Girl’s Shame-Free Guide to Sex & Safety, was recently named a finalist for ForeWord’s Book of the Year Award in Women’s Issues. Friedman is a popular speaker on campuses and at conferences across the U.S. and beyond. She has appeared on radio and TV including on the BBC’s World Have Your Say, Democracy Now, Q, and To The Contrary, and her commentary has appeared in outlets including CNN, The Washington Post, and The Nation. My next guest on Sex Out Loud is author, performer, playwright, and gender theorist Kate Bornstein. Join us on Friday, June 15 at 5:00 pm Pacific time/8:00 pm Eastern time on the VoiceAmerica Talk Radio Network when we’ll talk about her new memoir, her years as a high-ranking Scientologist working directly for L. Ron Hubbard, her transition, BDSM and kink, her time as a collared slave, the documentary being made about her, her own mental health and the struggles LGBT folks with mental health issues face. Plus, she’ll read one of the most provoactive sections from A Queer and Pleasant Danger.

Kate Bornstein is an author, playwright and performance artist whose latest book is her memoir, A Queer and Pleasant Danger. Other published works include the books Gender Outlaws: The Next Generation, Gender Outlaw: On Men, Women, and the Rest of Us, My Gender Workbook, Hello, Cruel World: 101 Alternatives To Suicide For Teens, Freaks, and Other Outlaws and the cyber-romance-action novel, Nearly Roadkill with co-author Caitlin Sullivan. We love the work of Kate Bornstein. We love the work of Sam Feder. We love supporting both of them in this important project! Read details below and visit the Kickstarter page to watch the video.

~~~~
People who know and love Kate Bornstein and her work can’t believe that a film about her has never been made.  She has been an inspirational figure for decades, motivating entire generations of gender outlaws and queers. Kate Bornstein is a Queer and Pleasant Danger offers fans new angles from which to consider her achievements, as well as introduces a new audience to this vibrant artist whose lively spirit is needed now more than ever.
I’ve been working closely with Kate since the Fall of 2010 filming her on tour, at home, and around NYC.  It’s time for her story to be on the big screen – we need your support to make this possible. The majority of the filming has been completed. All funds raised through Kickstarter will go towards a portion of production costs, including:
  • filming Kate on tour this summer
  • editing a rough cut of the feature
A 10-minute teaser of the film has screened to rave reviews (in London at FrinGe! and in NYC at PS1 MOMA and Dixon Place), increasing the buzz for the film. People are really excited to see the feature!
Synopsis of the film:
Kate Bornstein is a Queer & Pleasant Danger is an intimate portrait of an artist that illuminates one of gender theory’s most influential minds. This film is not a biographical report on someone’s life, nor is it a linear story.  Rather, it is an evocative study of a human being and an exploration of form and content that reflects the complexities of Kate and her world.  Engaging with Kate’s personal and public persona, the film captures her multifaceted, sometimes contradictory, and always charming personality, which has won the hearts of people worldwide, while also alienating others.
Kate Bornstein is a Queer & Pleasant Danger explores Kate’s artistic practice, her influences and the way she has created language, space, and permission for generations of people to live their lives outside traditional frameworks of gender, politics, and art.
Kate’s life journey as a shape shifter, gender theorist, and survivor of great depression offers provocative new ideas on the nature of art, community, and what it means to be queer and transgender.
As of 6/1/12 we reached out Kickstarter goal of $20,000! AMAZING! And, this will cover filming Kate this summer and editing a rough cut. Can’t believe the support! BUT we still need MORE to make this movie happen.
  • Hire an editor for the final cut(15k – 20k)
  • Score the film (3k-5k)
  • Color correction (6k)
  • Audio Mix (10k)
  • Promo (5k)
  • Distro (3k-5k)
If you want to be part of this important film, please support us in any way you can. NOTHING is too small.XO,
Sam
